Moraine Lake, in Canada
Tucked amid ten mountains of gray rock with snow-capped tops and cloaked in low clouds, is the beautiful Moraine Lake.
This natural wonder has been recognized as one of the most beautiful places on the planet. It is one of the most incredible views that we can find in Banff National Park, in Canada.
Moraine Lake, a dream place.
Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful territories in Canada is Moraine Lake, a mountain lake located in Banff National Park, in Alberta.
Specifically, we find it in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, 14 kilometers from Lake Louise and at an altitude of about 1,884 meters above sea level.
It has a total area of half a square kilometer and is fed by the melting of a glacier. In summer it reaches its maximum level, specifically in the second week of June.
This is the best season to visit it, because in winter the roads are blocked by snow and access is not possible.
One of the things that most stands out its beauty is the striking turquoise color of its waters.
This beautiful hue is created by the refraction of light from rock dust deposited from the mountains. This color is characteristic of the lakes on the Icefields Parkway.
The Valley of the Ten Peaks
The Valley of the Ten Peaks has Moraine Lake at its feet and is surrounded by coniferous forests. It is a valley that contains 10 gray rock mountains, some of which are more than 3,000 meters high.
Among them is the Rockpile, where there is a hostel for mountaineers; Wenkchemna peaks and Temple Mount peak, which is the third highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies at 3,540 meters.
This area is the habitat of the famous grizzly bears and 5,000 other animal species. It is a very popular place among nature lovers who prefer long walks and water activities.
It is also one of the most preferred places by both professional and amateur photographers, since the beauty of the place offers panoramic views that are not captured in another part of the world.
Activities to do at Moraine Lake
Navigate its waters
Sailing the calm waters of Moraine Lake is one of the most popular activities. Touring it by canoe or kayak is an incredible experience, as it gives you the opportunity to be enchanted by the beauty of the environment.
Trekking
This is a wonderful way to get to know this earthly paradise. Banff National Park offers hundreds of trails to explore and some of them are accessible to Moraine Lake.
One of the most popular trails is the Rockpile. It is an easy route to do, the only thing to be careful of is the grizzly bears that roam the area, so it is recommended to be accompanied, preferably in groups. Either way, if you plan to tour the area, the locals provide support and information.
Climb
If you like to release adrenaline and extreme sports, in this quiet place there are also activities for you, as it is possible to climb the surrounding mountains. The peaks are reached with some effort, but the payoff is well worth it.
From the top of the mountains you get incredible views that your eyes never thought to see. The photos that can be captured are truly spectacular.
In the mountainous Rockpile area is the Neil Hogan refuge, which is reached after climbing about 10 hours. There it is possible to recharge, relax and enjoy the best views of the lake.
Moraine Lake is a dream place that must be visited, even once in a lifetime. Enjoying its wonderful views and the nature that surrounds it is priceless.
