Big Buddha is a 34 meters in height and 250 tons bronze statue located at the top of Ngong Ping, the highest part of the Lantau island.

The construction of the statue was completed on December 28, 1993, becoming the representation of the world’s largest seated Buddha. It consists of 202 bronze pieces.

The Tian Tan Buddha is an extension of the Po Lin Monastery and symbolizes the union of man with nature. The statue is based on a Lotus leaf and surrounded by small statues of gods representing immortality.

To climb the statue will have to overcome the 268 steps that separate it from the ground. Once up, besides enjoying the magnificent views, you can access the inside of the statue to see the permanent exhibition. The entrance fee is very low, but despite this we believe it is not worth entering.

The set is one of the most important pilgrimage of this ancient religion. For those who do not process the Buddhist religion, the great Buddha in Lantau and the Po Lin Monastery is probably the most important monument in Hong Kong; the sensation that evokes the giant Buddha at the top of the Hill of Knong Ping is impressive and indescribable. Above, in addition, magnificent it views give us the panorama of practically all the hills and islands surrounding Lantau, and in the interior of the statue will have a permanent exhibition for the visitors.

The great Buddha in Lantau symbolizes the rise of the Pilgrim to lighting and the union of this nature. Perhaps a priori Western man does not evoke him more than a fantastic image and a memorable photograph, but once he begins the ascension and comes to take a look at the wonderful views, it is impossible that a bit of the rich Eastern philosophy that advocates on this Hill has not penetrated into his being.
