Carlsbad Caverns National Park in USA
The Carlsbad Caverns National Park are located southeast of New Mexico in the United States, more precisely in the Guadalupe Mountains. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995.
Throughout the National Park we will see about 83 caves all independent and each with its own charm, the most famous of all, the limestone cavern The Lechuguilla, the deepest in the country of this style.
This park attracts hundreds of search experts know more its mysteries, such as training and final composition of the same. Although it is known that were formed millions of years to create a reef, which subsequently vanished sea, the current composition and beauty of the caves existing here, the fill of unknowns.
Over a thousand years ago that prehistoric Indians ventured into seeking refuge in the big hole now known as the Natural Entrance to Carlsbad Cavern. There are telltale evidence as yucca sandals, arrowheads, stone tools and pottery shards, that the Indians lived nearby, but maybe not ventured much into the cave, probably because they were afraid of the dark.
They have the old legends of the Mescalero Apaches that the «cry of the spirit of death» out of the abyss, because of the belief that Carlsbad Caverns were kept the spirits of women who died in childbirth.
The great discoveries occurring by chance are always accompanied by something poetic that makes immortal, so I like to imagine that during a summer afternoon in the early 1900s, the cowboy Jim White, widely recognized as the first Anglo-Saxon browser Carlsbad Caverns and lover of opera, Madame Butterfly listening to an old and creaky gramophone, saw a column of smoke rising from the desert, only later understood that it was the smoke from a fire, but a myriad of bats . Attracted by the spectacular flight of millions of bats, probably Jim White built a ladder of sticks and wire and went down the Natural Entrance to explore the cave.
Enchanted by the cave, Jim was very interested in showing other people the many natural wonders of this place but few believed their incredible stories. Many people were more attracted by the huge deposits of bat guano in the cave for sale as a natural fertilizer for the wonders of a vast wilderness filled with extraordinary formations underground.
It was necessary to take black and white photographs by professional photographers to convince skeptics that Carlsbad Cavern was what was said, even more. The photos were displayed in the town of Carlsbad in 1915 created a sensation. Suddenly people became interested in see the wonderful cave for themselves. Jim White took them on tours inside the cave with a drop of 51 meters on a Cuba that was used to haul manure to the cave.
The park is open all year except Christmas Day, so January is a month of few visits. Now, just these weeks are the busiest principally from the U.S., so if you want to know with great tranquility, I recommend waiting at least a month before going into this fascinating adventure that involves your visit.
All that planning found in a cave, you can see here in this destination. Since limestone stalactites and stalagmites, to the monumental often presented colorful plaster composition. Another thing I recommend, is to appreciate Carlsbad Caverns in three dimensions, for which the lenses can be made to fulfill this function, which will provide an overview totally atypical for what we are used to seeing.
I recommend thinking about this destination, especially all those who had planned a little trip to the U.S. and had very definite unless able to roam New York. It really is a largely untapped by tourism, but obviously is on the rise, and is one of the many hidden sites found throughout the world, and that we will gradually unveiling.
